الكتاب يتحدث عن الرسامة جنفييف التي ولدت سنة 1893 بمدينة لوش الفرنسية، برزت مواهبها الفنية خلال طفولتها، وبعد وفاة والديها عام 1915 انتقلت إلى باريز، وهناك تعلمت الرسم على أيدي رسامين كبار، وابتداء من عام 1920، شرعت في تنظيم معارضها والمشاركة في معارض جماعية إلى جانب كبار الفنانين، فراكمت العديد من الجوائز والمنح والألقاب، المنح أتاحت لها تحقيق أحلامها في الرحلة إلى صحاري وقفار شمال أفريقيا التي ستتعلق بها وبمناظرها وحياة أفرادها وتقاليد العيش فيها، ما أهلها لنيل لقب \"فنانة الصحراء\" عن جدارة واستحقاق وبدون منازع.
