يناقش هذا البحث موضوع (صورة البطل في المسرح الشعرى المعاصر في مصر)، وقد استقصى الباحث مفهوم البطولة، ووصل إلى صيغة نهائية ارتضاها لكي ينطلق من خلالها لرصد شخصية البطل متبعاً المنهج التحليلي للشخصية، وقد اختصصت المسرح الشعرى بالبحث، لأن هناك عدة دراسات تدور حول البطل في الفنون الأدبية الأخرى كدراسة الدكتور شكري عياد (البطل في الأدب والأساطير)، ودراسة الدكتور شوقي ضيف (البطولة في الشعر العربي)، ورسالة الدكتوراه التي قام بها الدكتور محمد رجب النجار حول (البطل في الملاحم الشعبية العربية)، ورسالة الدكتور أحمد الهواري (البطل المعاصر في الرواية المصرية)، وغير ذلك من الدراسات، ووجد الباحث أن أحداً لم يقم بدراسة البطولة في المسرح الشعرى، كما أن هناك دراسات أخرى عن المسرح الشعرى، ولكنها لم تختص بالبطل، ومن هنا كانت أهمية هذا البحث.
