يأخذ إيلي حداد في كتابه في رحلة ممتعة وشيقة إلى مدن مختلفة، برلين، فيلادلفيا، نيويورك، بروكسل وبيروت. رحلة تجمع فنونا متعددة ومعارف نظرية مختلفة في بوتقة العمارة، التي هي أم الفنون. الكاتب يرحل إلى مدن بعيدة كي يعود بحكاياتها. قلت يعود، لأن هذه الرحلة تبدأ في زنزانة سجن في فيلادفيا حيث يفاجأ الكاتب بصورة الياس الصوري، اللبناني السجين-المخطوف الذي اختفى خلال الحرب، وتنتهي في بيروت التي تحولت من مدينة متوسطية ذات طابع أفقي إلى مدينة عمودية.
