تهدف الدراسة لرصد نشأة وتطور دورية الفكر الشرطي ورصد أهم السمات والخصائص التي ميزت الدورية، والتعرف على سياساتها التحريرية خلال فترة الدراسة. وكذلك تستعرض الدراسة أهداف الدورية المعلنة بواسطة هيئتها التحريرية، ومن ثم السعي للنظر في مدى النجاح في تحقيق هذه الأهداف عبر مسيرة الدورية خلال فترة الدراسة. وتحاول الدراسة كذلك أن تقدم رصدا كميا حول البحوث والدراسات المنشورة في الدورية للتعرف على إعدادها ولغتها ومؤلفيها ومناهجها. كما تسعى أيضا للتعرف على الصفات والخصائص الديمغرافية والمهنية والعلمية للباحثين المشاركين بالنشر العلمي والأكاديمي في الدورية. كذلك تسعى الدراسة للنظر في إسهام المؤسسات الأكاديمية الوطنية والخليجية والعربية في دعم ورفد الدورية بالبحوث والدراسات العلمية. وكذلك التعرف على اتجاهات التغطية الموضوعية للبحوث والدراسات المنشورة في الدورية.
