في هذا الكتاب ، يقدم الكاتب خمسة نماذج للفنان التشكيلي (من أمريكا وفرنسا وانجلترا ومصر) . منهم مخترع أمريكي بدأ \"سیل\" اختراعاته وهو في السابعة عشر من عمره، وحصل على آخر براءة اختراع وعمره 83 سنة، ويقدم أيضا نموذجا آخر من فرنسا لشقيقين يختلفان عن النموذج الأول، فقد احتضنهما والدهما، وأدخلهما أرقى المدارس. وفي بداية الثلاثينيات من عمرهما قدما للعالم اختراعا حدد ملامح القرن العشرين، أما الشخصية الثالثة التي تحدث عنها في هذا الكتاب. فهي لأول من وضع تعريفا للسينما التسجيلية وتبناها في إنجلترا. وكان لابد من تعريف لهذا النوع من الأفلام التي تتناول الحقيقة بلا تجميل وبلا رتوش ونتعرف بعدها على وضع السينما التسجيلية في مصر، وذلك قبل الحديث عن أسرة خرج منها ثلاثة من فناني السينما التسجيلية في مصر فبالرغم من وجود من سبقهم في هذا المجال.
