يغطي الكتاب في فصوله الخمسة معظم الموضوعات التي يطرقها علم النفس الأسري ففي فصله الأول : يتناول مدخلا للموضوع يستعرض تعريفاته الأساسية وأهمية دراسته والهدف من دراسته، ثم تاريخ وتطور الدراسات التي تناول الأسرة من الجانب السيكولوجي. ويناقض في فصله الثاني : موضوع الاختيار في الزواج، ويستعرض الفصل الثالث : الدور المحوري للأسرة في عملية التنشئة الاجتماعية، الفصل الرابع : فجاء لإلقاء الضوء على موضوعين على جانب كبير من الأهمية وهما مسببات أزمة الأسرة وسبل إرشادها، أما الفصل الخامس : خصص لتوجيه الأخصائيين النفسيين والاجتماعيين في مجال التوعية الإرشاد الأسري.
