يتحدث الكتاب عن أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن محمد بن إبراهيم اللواتي الطنجي المعروف بابن بطوطة .. حيث أنه أشهر الرحالة المسلمين في تاريخ الحضارة الإسلامية، ويلقبه الغربيون باسم \"أمير الرحالة\". خرج ابن بطوطة من بلدته \"طنجة\" في المغرب عام 1325 م وظل يجوب بلاد العالم الإسلامي مدة 25 سنة قطع خلالها 75 ألف ميل، وهي مسافة لم يقطعها مسافر قبله. في هذا الجزء من رحلات ابن بطوطة سنصحبه في رحلته عبر أراضي مصر منذ دخلها من الإسكندرية، وطاف بكثير من مدنها وقراها حتى وصل إلى ميناء عيذاب على البحر الأحمر.
