سميت ثورة الكرامة بثورة الياسمين لأنها اقتبست من الياسمين عنصر القوة والبقاء والشعبية والنقاء. الياسمين الذي عرش على أسوار بيوت أهل الشام وسقته برك الماء العذبة التي توسطت بيوتة العربية. والياسمين الذي ارتوى من بردي والعاصي فتفتحت براعمة لتغدوا زهورا بيضاء نقية وانتشر عبه ليعطر الشوارع والساحات وليرافق ضحكات الأطفال في ملاعبهم ولتتزين به الفتيات عقودا أو يطعمن به قهوة الصباح. الياسمين الذي أتاح نفسه لكل العابرين وقدم من زهرة بسخاء لكل من يطلب. قد اكتسب من روح شعب عاش معه على الحلوة والمرة كثيرا من طباعه، وأكسبه هو الآخر من صفاته الكثير. ولذلك عندما يثور الشعب فإن الياسمين يعلن ثورتة لينال حريته وهو الذي اعتاد دائما على كسر القيود فلا السجان قادر أن ينال من طهرة ولا الجلاد متمكن من هزيمته.
