إننا في هذا الكتاب بإزاء مرجع نفيس أصيل في ميدان الفلسفة البراجماتية فهذه الترجمة العربية لا بد مالئة فراغا في المكتبة الفلسفية عندنا طالما تمنينا أن يملأ ليجد القارئ العربي بين يديه ما يحتاج إليه من مصادر المعرفة الحديثة ومهما تختلف الآراء في الفلسفة البراجماتية قبولا ورفضا فإن تلك الآراء المختلفة جميعا لتلتقي عند نقطة يتفق عليها القابلون والرافضون على حد سواء وتلك هي أن البراجماتية إنما جاءت تعبيرا عن عصرنا العلمي من بعض وجوهه وإنه ليتعذر بل يستحيل على المتعقب لثقافة هذا العصر أن يغمض عينيه عن هذا التيار الفكري الذي لم يكد يتفجر ينبوعه على يدي تشارلز بيرس (1839-1914) حتى أخذت روافده تتدفق في سرعة وغزارة.
