يهدف الكتاب إلى عرض المفاهيم الأساسية لنظرية القرارات في المواقف غير التنافسية، وفي المواقف التنافسية، واستخدامها لمعالجة بعض المشكلات العملية وينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى بابين : الباب الأول : اتخاذ القرارات في المواقف الغير تنافسية، والباب الثاني : اتخاذ القرارات في المواقف النتافسية ويلاحظ أن دراسة المواقف غير التنافسية تعتمد على تقدير التوزيعات الاحتمالية للأحداث وذلك بالاستعانة بالتقدير الشخصي للخبير المهتم بالمشكلة محل الدراسة وفي ضوء المعلومات التجريبية التي يمكن الحصول عليها وباستخدام نظرية بايز يتم مزج التقدير الشخصي مع المعلومات التجريبية للحصول على ما يسمى بالمعلومات المعدلة.
