نظمت ندوة الثقافة والعلوم الجائزة بتبرع سخي من المرحوم سلطان بن علي العويس منذ عام 1990، بغية تشجيع الباحثين والدارسين الإماراتيين على توجيه أبحاثهم وجهودهم الإبداعية لما يخدم قضايا التنمية بالدراسة والتحليل والاستشراف، ويبرز المواهب المتعددة في البحث والابتكار العلمي والفكري والأدبي والفني، والإفادة من الباحثين المقيمين في إعداد دراسات عن مجتمع الإمارات. وللجائزة أقسام عدة تشمل : شخصية العام الثقافية، الجائزة الثقافية الخاصة، المسابقات العامة.
