Overview
شهدت سمرقند منذ أن شيدت في القرن السادس أو السابع قبل الميلاد فترات من الرخاء والانحطاط. أقام صناعها المهرة العلاقات التجارية التي امتدت إلى حدود الصين، وحارب قائدها العسكري العظيم تيمورلنك بلاد الفرس وسوريا والهند. أكثر ما تعرف به سمرقند هو أنها مركز العلوم الإسلامية والعمارة الإسلامية. التقطت هذه الصور المجموعة هنا في فترة مهمة ما بين سنة 1871 والتسعينات من نفس القرن، إثر غزو قوات القيصر سنة 1868، وقبل الحكم السوفيتي الذي نتج عنه تدمير الكثير من المعالم الإسلامية.
