يقدم الكتاب نصوصا ووثائق لم تجمع من قبل وصورا نادرة بالأبيض والأسود، تعود للعقود الأولى من القرن العشرين، منها نص الخطاب الذي ألقاه أنطون بك الجميل في حفلة العيد الفضي لمطبعة المعارف سنة 1916، بعنوان \"مشاهدات في مطبعة المعارف\"، ونص الكلمة التي ألقاها طه حسين في الاحتفال باليوبيل الذهبي لدار المعارف سنة 1941، ونص الإهداء الذي كتبه شفيق متري للملك فاروق في صدر الطبعة الخاصة من كتاب \"كليلة ودمنة\" 1941، وتصدير طه حسين لهذه الطبعة أيضا، والمقدمة التي كتبها المؤرخ والمحقق الكبير الدكتور أحمد فريد رفاعي بك للكتاب التذكاري \"مطبعة المعارف ومكتبتها وأصدقاؤها\" (1890-1931)
