تمت رحلة بيير لوتي إلى المغرب، حسب ما يشير المؤلف، في سنة 1889 خلال حكم السلطان المغربي الحسن الأول، الذي امتد من 1873 إلى 1894. وقد شهدت هذه الحقبة وصول العديد من البعثات الأوروبية إلى البلاط السلطاني بفاس ومراكش وكانت هذه البعثات، حسب المصدر نفسه، من أجل معالجة الكثير من القضايا والمشاكل المطروحة بين المغرب وجيرانه الغربيين، من قبيل : فرنسا، وإسبانيا، والبرتغال، وإنجلترا... وهو ما لم يتطرق الكتاب إلى أهدافه، وقصد البعثة الديبلوماسية، التي يرأسها الوزير الفرنسي المفوض، والتي كان بيير لوتي حاضرا فيها.
