يتناول الكتاب حيث يركز الباحث في دراسته هذه على المنحى الوظيفي/نموذج \"نمو الخطاب الوظيفي\" في البحث اللساني العربي، في طموح إلى وضع ، وإقامة تنميط يضطلع بموقعتها نحو وظيفي للغة العربية متكاملاً يكفل رصد خصائصها وصفاً وتفسيرا بالنسبة إلى باقي اللغات الطبيعية؛ كذلك يريد أديبنا نقل البحث اللساني الوظيفي إلى مجال الإجراء والتطبيق ليلج القطاعات الاجتماعية، الاقتصادية كالترجمة وتعليم اللغة وتحليل النصوص باختلاف أنماطها والطب النفسي المهتم بالاضطرابات اللغوية؛ كذلك يطمح إلى تعميم هذا المشروع العلمي ليشمل مختلف أنساق التواصل وقنواته اللغوية وغير اللغوية.
