عد العرب من أوائل الشعوب التي امتازت بالتصنيف المعجمي وهذا ما أكده أغلب العلماء وشهد به غير عالم من الأعاجم كهايوود الذي يقول : \"يعد العرب الأفضل حتى عصر النهضة في تصنيف القواميس، والأعمال المعجمية\"[1]، و هذا ما ذكره فيشر حيث قال : \"إذا استثنينا الصين فلا يوجد شعبٌ آخر يحق له الفخار بوفرة كتب علوم لغته، وبشعوره المبكر بحاجته إلى تنسيق مفرداتها حسب أصولٍ وقواعد، غير العرب.
