يتناول الكتاب حيث أن التربية منظومة وسياق في تنشئة الأجيال، يتم من خلاله مبدئياً ممارسة تحقيق مشروع المستقبل، إذ لا يقبل مبدئياً، أن يقال أو يعتمد في الأداء التربوي، ما كان يعتمد من تصورات وأساليب الإعداد في الماضي وللماضي، لإن ذلك ينافي مبدأ التربية التي هي عملية تأخذ من طبيعة ما تشتغل عليه، وهو الطبيعة الزمنية للنمو بصفة عامة، والبشري منه على وجه الخصوص، الطبيعة المتسمة بعدم القابلية للتراجع إلى الوراء. ومن هنا يبدو أن أساس التعذر في حل معضلة «نحن والتربية» أو في مقابلة طرفيها، يكمن في مدى التشبث بالماضي في مشروعنا المستقبلي من جهة، واتجاه العملية التربوية في طبيعتها الزمنية النمائية من جهة أخرى، أو ما نرسمها لها من حدود في هذا الاتجاه على الأصح.
