تناقش الرواية فكرة التعصب الديني المسيحي والإسلامي، وتحاول أن تظهر النتيجة التي تؤول إليها الحال حين لا يحتمل الفرد في المجتمع شريكه فيه، ويلغي كل طرف الطرف الآخر. ومن جانب آخر تجتهد الرواية في ترسيخ فكرة الحوار، الحوار الهادئ الذي قد يغير القناعات ويبدل الاصطفافات. وهي ترى في هذا الحوار سبيلا وحيدة لرقي المجتمعات والتخلص من بعض الموروثات المبنية على عادات وتقاليد أكثر منها مبادئ وأفكار، النهايات الّتي ترسمها الرواية تظهر مدى قساوة النتيجة التي تنتهي إليها شخصيات الرواية بسبب غياب تقبل الآخر والاستماع عليه. وهي تلقي الضوء على بعض الحقائق التي تغيب عن أذهان أفراد المجتمع بسبب غيابهم أو تغييبهم عن الواقع، وتكشف بعض الممارسات الوحشية التي ترتكب بحق من يؤمن بدين جديد أو بعقيدة مغايرة.
