يستهدف هذا الكتاب الموجه أصلا للآباء تقديم معلومات لهم عن مشكلات ابنائهم وبناتهم سواء أكانوا أطفالا أم مراهقين ، ففيه يقوم المؤلفات بتوضيح المشكلة ثم التحدث عن اسبابها وأساليب الوقاية منها وكيفية علاجها. ومع ان الكتاب موجه للآباء إلا انه في الواقع يصلح لكي يستخدم كدليل عمل لمختلف فئات العاملين في المجالات التى تتطلب تقديم المساعدة للأطفال والمراهقين كالمعلمين والمرشدين التربويين والاخصائيين الاجتماعيين. والأساليب التى يقترحها المؤلفان للوقاية من المشكلة هى أساليب صالحة للتطبيق على الأطفال والمراهقين الذين لا توجد لديهم مشكلة. أما الأساليب المقترحة للعلاج فهى لا تصلح للتطبيق إلا عندما تكون المشكلة موجودة.
