يتناول الكتاب دراسة لجميع السواكف المنحوتة بالنقوش الزخرفية التي تعلو فتحات الأبواب والنوافذ في واجهات المباني السكنية المنتشرة في القرى القديمة جنوب الكتلة الكلسية شمال سوريا، وشملت الدراسة الميدانية لهذه المواقع الأثرية 1067 ساكفا على الواجهات أو على الأرض منتشرة في 254 بيتا فيها لتوضيح طبيعتها وتطورها ومدى انتشارها في القرية الواحدة أو بالمقارنة مع القرى المجاورة.
