حين استلم ايقونة الغموض الروائي الأصهب جائزته وفجر ذاك الاعلان الغريب فعم الصخب بالجمهور وظن بعضهم انها مزحة. لكن جثة الأصهب مفجرة الرأس لم تكن مضحكة على الإطلاق تلاه ظهورالإخطبوط وتساقط المزيد من الجثث في مدينة ثاج وقضية التحدي الذي واجهها المحقق عماد. في سابقة للمؤلف أن يكتب رواية بوليسية بقطبين المحقق ماجد والمحقق عماد. فمن يصل للحقيقة. فتبدأ أحداث الرواية في حفل توزيع جوائز النخبة للأدب وأثناء استلام الأصهب جائزته ،قام بتصريح غريب بأنه سيسلم مكافأة لمن يقوم بقتله.وبعد ذلك يتم اكتشاف جثته من قبل الشرطة فقد وجد مقتولا في مكتبه بسلاحين. فيبدأ المحقق ماجد وفريقه بالتحري ومحاولة كشف لغز الجريمة. وأيضا هناك المحقق عماد الذي كان يواجه سلسلة من الجرائم المحيرة بسبب تطابق طريقة القتل.
