يشتمل هذا الكتاب على موضوعات متعددة ومتنوعة، جمعت في غالبيتها تحت مفهوم الصحة النفسية، غير أن نقاشها يمكن أن يتم كذلك من منظور المفاهيم العلمية الأخرى. فإذا بدت بعض الموضوعات تقليدية، وبعضها الآخر واقع خارج نطاق موضوعات الصحة النفسية، إلا أن موضوع ربطها بالصحة النفسية هو الذي جعل منها موضوعات تستحق المعالجة من هذا المنظور. وكما هو الحال في غالبية المواقف الحياتية، يضطر المرء للخضوع لمطالب لا يكون على قناعة تامة بها. وعليه فقد جرت إضافة بعض الموضوعات التي قد لا يكون موقعها الصحيح ضمن هذا الإطار، أو كان يمكن استيفائها بصورة أوسع في مكان آخر، غير أن هذا لا يخرج الكتاب عن إطاره في كل الأحوال.
