ينقسم هذا الكتاب أدب القيروان في عهد الأغالبة والفاطميين خصص واحدا للشعر وآخر للنثر وقام المؤلف بتصنيف الشعر إلى أحد عشر فنا مع الإشارة إلى التأثر بشعراء المشرق الإسلامي وما اتسم به هذا الشعر من سمات عامة وفي نهاية الباب أشار إلى أهم مصادره وأعلامه لتكون عونا لمن أراد أن يستزيد وفي باب النثر قسمه إلى قسمين قسم يختص بالنثر التأليفي وآخر بالنثر الخالص.
