خضع موضوع الغزل لدراسات عدة، غير إن ما يلاحظ على هذه الدراسات أنها عنيت بالجانب التاريخي أو بنمط محدد من النصوص الشعرية. على حين كانت دراسة ما يتصل بقصيدة الغزل من جهة الباعث والمرجعيات، والبنية قاصرة أو معلقة بجانب ضيق من جوانبها الفسيحة، ومن ثم لقي موضوع البحث هوى في نفسي رسخه ما قرأت، بعده في هذا الموضوع. وبعد إن انتهيت من جمع مادته وجدتها تملي علي أن اقسمها على هذه المقدمة واللتمهيد وثلاثة أبواب واتبعت ذلك بخاتمة.
