Overview
يتناول الكتاب حقبتان رئيستان في تاريخ ادب الأيدو مع ملاحظة الخط الفاصل في اوائل القرن الثامن عشر في النصف الأول، كانت طبقة جوبين المفعمة بالحيوية والنشاط تصون الحرية من كثر القيود المفتعلة التي وجدت منذ أيام كاماكور. كان مركز هذه النشاطات في معظم تاريخ تلك المدة في كيوتو واوساكا في الغرب. أما في النصف الثاني فقد انتقل المركز إلى ايد بمعزل عن النشاط الحيوي في حقبة التيمي في ثمانينات القرن الثامن عشر فقدت الفنون حيويتها وهبط الأدب في الغالب إلى مستوى التسلية الصرف. ويطرح الكاتب تساولات هل اليابان أمة للشعراء كما أن العرب أمة الشعر والشعراء ؟ وهل للشعر مكانة في اليابان وهي أمة تكنلوجيا بكل معالمها وتطوراتها ؟
