كاد يرسخ في أذهان عشاق الرباعيات أن كل مجموعة منسوبة إلى عمر الخيام هي من بنات أفكار هذا الفيلسوف الشاعر، لولا مقال للأستاذ الروسي شكوفسكي عام 7981 أثبت أن اثنتين وثمانين منها واردة في دواوين غيره من شعراء الفرس، وأن نحو نصف هذا العدد لثلاثة من كبارهم، هم فريد الدين العطار، وحافظ، وجلال الدين الرومي، وأما النصف الآخر فلأربعين آخرين كأبي سعيد وابن سينا والفردوسي وأنوري وعبدالله الأنصاري، وقد لقبوها بـ \"الرباعيات المتشردة\". والظاهر أن مورديها في نسخهم كانوا يلفونها شبيهة بالرباعيات الخيامية فيضيفونها إليها بقصد أو بغير قصد. ولقد زاد عددها منذ ظهور تلك المقالة فبلغ 101.
