يضع الأستاذ طارق الضيافلة في كتابه (مقدمة في الكيمياء العضوية) صورة أولية مبسطة عن علم الكيمياء العضوية وأهميتها في الحياة. وقد اشتمل الكتاب على وحدتين مرتبتين على النحو الآتي : الوحدة الأولى : الحموض والقواعد وفيها بيان لمفاهيم الحموض والقواعد المختلفة التفاعل بين الحموض والقواعد، ثم تفسير السلوك الحمضي أو القاعدي أو المتعادل للأملاح وبيان أثر إضافة ملح على حموضة وقاعدية الحمض أو القاعدة، وكان لابد من البدء بهذه الوحدة لما تحويه من أفكار ومفاهيم تلزم في علم الكيمياء العضوية. وأما الوحدة الثانية: فتحدثت عن المركبات العضوية : كيفية تسميتها حسب نظام IUPAC وذكر أهم خصائصها الفيزيائية وتفاعلاتها الكيميائية واستخدامات بعضها في الحياة، وطرق تحضير هذه المركبات في المختبر وفي الصناعة.
