يتناول هذا الكتاب آفاق السلطة الفلسطينية ومستقبلها والخيارات المتاحة أمام الشعب الفلسطيني في التعامل معها، والبحث في إمكانية إعادة تعريف دورها شكلا ومضمونا في القضية الفلسطينية، وجهود إحياء منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية وإعادة بنائها. ويبين الكتاب أن السلطة الفلسطينية الناشئة عن اتفاقيات أوسلو قد فشلت في التحول نحو الدولة وفقا لما نصت عليه الاتفاقيات، وأن جهود السلام الحثيثة، منذ أوسلو وخارطة الطريق عام 2004 وغيرهما، لم تنجح في تأكيد وضع السلطة الفلسطينية على الأرض وأخذ دورها في بناء دولة فلسطينية مستقلة، وخاصة من جهة الجانب الإسرائيلي.
