في كثير من صفحات \"مرايا الغياب\" نجد أنفسنا أمام كاتب إنسان. صحيح أن شقير إنسان سياسي، وكان للسياسة حضور كبير في حياته، إلا أنه في نظرته لكثير من الأمور كان ينطلق من منطلقات إنسانية، وفي مواطن عديدة أشار إلى أن رؤيته كانت على قدر كبير من الرومانسية، وهذا ما لم يكن مثلا عليه السياسيون المحترفون، ممن يكونون أدباء، إذ كانوا سياسيين في تعاملهم مع كثير من القضايا، يغلبون مصلحة الحزب على غيرها. طبعا هذا لا يعني إنهم، بخاصة الذين كتب عنهم، كانوا مجردين من المشاعر الإنسانية، فلقد كانوا يضحكون ويمزحون ويسخرون ويحزنون أيضا.
