في مقدمة الكتاب يكتب زميل المؤلف المقرب الأسير المثقف والقيادي وأحد أركان الحركة الأسيرة ومشروع التعليم الجامعي في السجون ياسر أبو بكر عن طبقات العذاب المتراكمة في الحياة الاعتقالية للأسرى المرضى، ويتحدث عن تطوع الأسير راتب طوال أربع سنوات بالإقامة مع الأسرى المرضى وخدمتهم بأمانة لا توصف. يقول الأسير أبو بكر : \"أن تقضي أربع سنوات من عمرك في سجون الاحتلال فهذا كثير وكثير جدا، وخاصة أنها سجون عدوك الذي يقضي جل وقته محاولا التضييق عليك وقتلك ببطء وتحت عنوان الإهمال الطبي، وهو الاسم الذي يخفي بين طياته الاسم الحقيقي له، وهو الاغتيال وليس الإهمال.
