في هذا الكتاب يعرض المؤلف لتاريخ غزة وأهميتها وما طرأ عليها من أحوال، وفي هذا السياق يتحدث المؤلف عن أصل التسمية (غزة) والأمم التي مرت بها كالمصريين الفراعنة، والهكسوس والمعنيين. ويعرض لتاريخها بعد الفتح الإسلامي حتى دخول الفرنجة إليها ثم احتلالها من قبل السلاطين العثمانيين مبنيا التسلسل التاريخي للأحداث التي جرت في غزة إبان الحكم التركي عارضا للحال السياسية والاقتصادية في غزة إبان هذا الحكم، كذلك يقدم المؤلف جردا للعائلات التي كانت تسكن في مدينة غزة سنة 1948، ولأعلام غزة وقضائها، كما يعرض لعوائد سكان غزة واحتفالاتهم وأعيادهم، والكتاب مزود بالخرائط والصور الفوتوغرافية النادرة لهذه المدينة التاريخية العريقة.
