يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه دراسة لأهم معالم تاريخ العصور الوسطى الأوروبية وحضارتها وهو ثمرة عمل المؤلف الدكتور \"جوزيف نسيم يوسف\" في هذا الميدان من ربع قرن. بدأه بالتعريف بتلك العصور التي اقتطعت من تاريخ البشرية أكثر من عشرة قرون من الزمان، وما ثار حول بدايتها ونهايتها من آراء وأفكار. وانتقل بعد ذلك إلى الحديث عن الأسس التي ارتكزت عليها تلك القرون، والتي تعبر عن روحها أصدق تعبير. ثم تناول بالدراسة أبرز قضاياها في المجالين السياسي والحضاري. فتحدث عن الجرمان البرابرة وغزواتهم، والممالك التي أقاموها على أنقاض الإمبراطورية الرومانية. واستعرض بعد ذلك، الأحوال الاجتماعية التي يعبر عنها النظام الطبقي.
