يضم الكتاب 291 رسالة من عهد الشيخ خليفة بن زايد الذي اشتهر ب'سمي زايد الكبير وزايد الأول. وقد حكم إمارة أبوظبي من 1836-1909 م. وهي رسائل تبادلها مع أفراد عائلته وشيوخ القبائل والأعيان، وكلها تلقي الضوء على شخصية زايد الأول والأحوال الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية التي سادت في عهده. وتمثل مصادر أرشيفية هامة للباحثين، ولا سيما أنها دونت بأسلوب تلقائي وبلهجة الناس الذين عاشوا في تلك الفترة، ولذا تفيض بالمفردات البدوية، وتشكل جزءا هاما من تاريخ الإمارات وتراثها.
