أهمية هذا الكتاب تتمثل في أنه استوعب ما ورد حول \"الخلافة الإلهية\" في آثار الشهيد الصدر، فصنفها في سياق منطقي منتظم ومنسق، تتفرع فيه الجزيئات من الكليات والعناصر الخاصة من المقولات الرئيسة، بنحو هذا الجهد محاولة جادة لبناء المعجم الاصلاحي الخاص للشهيد الصدر في هذا الموضوع، الذي استقاه من القرآن الكريم، مضافا إلى أن الأستاذ العلاق اهتم بالكشف عن الأبعاد الوجدانية العاطفية في \"الخلافة الإلهية\" وما يترتب من مضمون قيمي أخلاقي إنساني عند الشهيد الصدر، وكيف أنه منذ كتابته الأولى في مجلة \"الأضواء\" شدد على مكانة العاطفة الدينية، وعد انفصالها عن الدين يفضي إلى تشويه الدين وتفريغه من مضمونه الإنساني، وواصل حثه باستمرار على ذلك، حتى أن آخر محاضرة له قبيل استشهاده تناول فيها هذا الموضوع.
