جاء هذا الكتاب في ستة فصول رئيسية، الأول منها بعنوان اللغة مفهومها ونشأتها ومستوياتها، وقد عرض فيه مفهوم اللغة ونشأتها ومستوياتها وخصائصها. فيما جاء الفصل الثاني بعنوان المدخل الحديث في تعليم اللغة العربية ومبادئ تعليمها وقد عرض فيها عناصر الاتصال اللغوي ومهاراته ومدخل التكامل ودخل الوظيفة. أما الفصل الثالث تكلم عن مهارة الكلام واستراتيجية الخطاب وقد عرض فيه مفهوم الكلام وأهميته. فيما تناول الفصل الرابع مهارة الكتابة وتعليمها وقد عرض فيه التعبير الكتابي وأنواعه ومهاراته ومشكلاته، فيما تناول الفصل الخامس مهارة الاستماع وتعليمها. وقد عرض فيه مفهوم الاستماع وأهميته وأنواعه وأهداف تعليمه والعوامل المؤثرة في الاستماع. فيما تناول الفصل السادس مهارة القراءة وتعليمها، وقد عرض فيه مفهوم القراءة وآلياتها وأهميتها.
