يمثل هذا الكتاب محاولة طيبة ترمي إلى شرح العوامل الجغرافية وتوضيح أثرها في توجيه التاريخ. وقد أسهب المؤلف في دراسة الحضارة المصرية لأنها في نظره بعثت النور والعرفان إلى شتى نواحي العالم، وكانت البذرة الأولى التي أخذت عنها الحضارات القديمة والحديثة في مختلف العصور وقد نظر المؤلف إلى البيئات المختلفة نظرة صادقة ناقدة وقام بدراسة الحقائق الجغرافية فيها ووصل بهذه الدراسة إلى تكييف التطور التاريخي في كل منها. ومعني هذا تفسير التاريخ بأسلوب يسمو كثيرا عن مجرد سرد الوقائع والأحداث بدون إشارة إلى العوامل الجغرافية الأساسية، وقد وصل بهذا المجهود إلى بحث فلسفة الحضارة الإنسانية وكيف أنها رغم تنوعها في البيئات المختلفة ترمي دائما إلى إسعاد البشر ورفاهيتهم، وتدعو إلى التقارب بين الأمم وإلى توطيد روح التفاهم بينها.
