الكتاب يتناول تاريخ إقليم الفيوم حتى نهاية العصر المتأخر، وينقسم إلى ستة فصول. يتناول الفصل الأول اسم الإقليم وموقعه وعاصمته في العصور القديمة، والفصل الثاني تناول تاريخ الفيوم منذ العصور الحجرية مرورا بالعصر العتيق وعصر الدولة القديمة وعصر الانتقال الأول وعصر الدولة الوسطى ثم عصر الانتقال الثاني وعصر الدولة الحديثة والعصر المتأخر، أما الفصل الثالث فتحدث عن النشاط الاقتصادي في الفيوم، والرابع عن الحياة الاجتماعية والخامس عن الحياة الدينية، ثم الفصل السادس عن أهم مواقع ومناطق إقليم الفيوم الأثرية.
