هذه الدراسة تسعى إلى متابعة سير مسألة الإنسان فى فكر الأكوينى، دون أن تغفل فى أى وقت من الأوقات مسألة (البعد السياسى للوجود الإنسانى) التى تصير شيئا فشيئا مركز هذا المؤلف وغايته. كان عالم اللاهوت المسيحى توما الأكوينى قد تعلم أولا أن الإنسان هو عبد الإله وابنه، مكرسا بأكمله لـ\"مملكة\" أخرى ليست من هذا العالم. ومن الفيلسوف أرسطو تعلم القديس توما أن الإنسان ملتزم بالعالم. عندئذ أحكم الأكوينى إنشاء صورة لعلم الإنسان، كانت جديدة على نحو جذرى، لتشهد ثقافة القرون الوسطى انفتاح مجال الفكر الـمحدث.
