يعد الكتاب مرجعا مبسطا في علم من العلوم الحديثة التي لها مساس كلي بحياة الشعوب ودفاعها واقتصاداتها وهو علم الأجواء (أو علم الأرصاد الجوية)، أو كما يسميه البعض علم (الميتورولوجيا)، لسد ذلك النقص في هذه الناحية، ويعرض نتائج آخر ما وصل إليه البحث والكشف العلمي في هذا المضمار، وأراد المؤلف العالم الراحل محمد جمال الدين الأفندي لكتابه أن يكون مرجعا أوليا في الطبيعة الجوية يحقق فائدة لمحبي المعرفة العلمية، وكذلك طلبة مدارس الطيران والبحرية، ونحوها من المعاهد التي تعد أولئك الذين يتوقف مدار عملهم على الطوارئ الجوية، والكتاب أيضا مرجع لطلبة الزراعة والجغرافيا وعلوم البحار وطلبة الهندسة واللاسلكي والطب، ممن تدخل في برامج دراساتها مبادئ علم الأرصاد الجوية.
