يتكون الكتاب، من ثلاثة فصول معززة بالوثائق والمراسلات والصور التي تخدم وتوثق المواضيع المتناولة في كل فصل. يتعرض المؤلف في الفصل الأول من كتابه إلى ركائز مهمة لانطلاق الصحف البحرينية وبدايات النهضة الثقافية وتأسيس المطابع التي مهدت وسبقت اصدار الصحف ودور المكتبات في انتشار الصحف البحرينية، ويشير إلى البداية الحقيقة لانتشار المؤسسات الادبية والثقافية في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وبداية القرن العشرين عن طريق مجالس الشيوخ والتجار والوجهاء التي كانت بمثابة أندية وصالونات ثقافية، وكان الظهور الفعلي للأندية الأدبية والثقافية في البحرين مع تأسيس نادي إقبال إول بالمنامة العام 1913 وكان مديره شيخ محمد صالح خنجي وأمين سره الأديب ناصر الخيري.
