يتألف الكتاب من قسمين : الأول : بحث علمي بحت تقدم به المؤلف للحصول على الدكتوراه، ويضم ستة فصول عن حياة الشاعر سعدي الشيرازي وعصره وظروف إنتاجه للبوستان، وعلاقة البوستان بالمثنويات، ووصف لأهم نسخه الموجودة، وأبواب الكتاب وموضوعها، وطريقة الشيرازي في قصص البستان. الثاني: يضم ترجمة للجزء الأول من قصائد البستان، وتضم :- المقدمات الخمس : مدح الذات الإلهية-مدح النبي عليه السلام-سبب نظم الكتاب-مدح الأمير أبي بكر بن سعد-مدح ولي العهد-الباب الأول : في العدل والإنصاف وسياسة الحكم.
