تغطي هذه الدراسة حقبة مهمة من تاريخ فلسطين تمتد إلى أكثر من ثلاثة قرون، بدءا بـ\"الفتح الصلاحي\" سنة 1187 وصولا إلى خضوع هذا البلد لحكم الأتراك العثمانيين سنة 1516. وهي تشمل، عدا التغيرات السياسية والإدارية التي شهدتها الحقبة المعنية، جميع الجوانب ذات الصلة بموضوع التاريخ وفقا للمفهوم الحديث والمعاصر. وفي السياق نفسه، تتعرض الدراسة للتغييرات الديموغرافية وللتغيرات التي طرأت على الخريطة الدينية والتشكيلات الطائفية، وللتحولات الاجتماعية التي كانت تتأثر بالعوامل الاقتصادية أو بالسياسات العسكرية. كما أنها تتحرى الأوضاع الاقتصادية بعد أن تفشى نظام الإقطاع وطرأت تغيرات جذرية على نظام ملكية الأرض. كذلك تحظى الحياة العلمية والثقافية والعمرانية باهتمام خاص. وبالتالي يأتي هذا البحث تأكيدا لاستمرارية التاريخ العربي الفلسطيني، ردا على المقولة التي يرددها الخطاب الصهيوني بأنه لم يقم في فلسطين كيان سياسي مستقل بعد مملكة الصليبيين إلا كيان واحد ووحيد هو دولة إسرائيل.
