يعنى هذا الكتاب بما ورد عن بلاد العرب في أعمال أريانوس، أحد أشهر المؤرخين اليونانيين، لقد كتب هذا المؤرخ مؤلفا عن حملات الإسكندر الأكبر وآخر وصف فيه الطريق إلى الهند، وأشار في كل منهما إلى شبه الجزيرة العربية، وبالنسبة لأريانوس، الذي كان قائدا عسكريا هو ذاته، فإن كتابه عن هذا القائد يمثل مشروعه الأهم بالمقارنة ببقية أعماله وحتى الفلسفية منها ؛ لقد حاول فيه إنقاذ سيرة الإسكندر وتنقيحها مما لحق بها عبر القرون الأربعة التي تفصل بينهما، كذلك فإنه أشار إلى أعمال الإسكندر على حدود الجزيرة العربية، ومشروعاته بشأنها وحملاته الاستكشافية عليها، ووصف الطريق البحري المار بها والجزر الموجودة بمحاذاته، مثل جزيرة فيلكه ودلمون / البحرين.
