التاريخ العباسي جزء عظيم من تاريخ المسلمين يبتدئ \" سنة 132\" إلى \" سنة 656\"، وقد صور الكاتب حالهم السياسي من مبتدأ خلافتهم على أيدى دعاتهم بخراسان والعراق أى منتهاها على يد هولاكو خان المغولى حفيد جنكيز خان، بين تلك الحال في أدوار الدولة المختلفة من قوة وضعف مع توضيح الأسباب التى رفعت هذه الدولة إلى الذروة العليا من سعة الملك ونفوذ الكلمة، والأسباب التي نزلت بها إلى الحضيض من ضيق رقعة الملك وسقوط الهيبة وضعف النفوذ، وقد ختم الكاتب حديثه عنها بفصل إجمالى يوضح تلك الأسباب.
