الاعترافات وهي مجموعة قصص للسيرة الذاتية كتبت في الأعوام بين (1764-1770) ويحكي فيها الكاتب أحداث حياته ولم يكن \"روسو\" ينوي إضافة صفتي الكمال والحياة المثالية على هذه المجموعة من الكتب، وإنما كان يحكي جميع أحدث حياته ويعترف بكل أخطائه ومنها اتهامه الكاذب بالسرقة وهو طفل. وقد لخص \"روسو\" فى كتابه \"الاعترافات\" معاناته فى الوحشة، والشعور بالاغتراب، والحنين إلى طبيعة إنسانية أكثر براءة، وأوفى صدقا، ويعتبر الكتاب من روائع كتب السيرة، حيث بث فيه روسو لواعج قلبه، ونداءات عقله إلى عالم خاص تقود فيه الحرية إلى الحقيقة. ويتناول روسو فى \"الاعترافات\" حياته منذ مولده وحتى العام 1766.
