إن تاريخ الإسلام في أسبانيا ما زال يكنفه الكثير من الظلام لعدم وجود مصادر عربية مباشرة ولعدم حيادية المصادر الأجنبية التى كتبها المستشرقون وفى هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف التأريخ لحياة أحد سلاطين غرناطة وهو السلطان أبو الحجاج يوسف الأول ابن الأحمر وذلك لإبراز المعالم العظيمة المعاصرة لتاريخ بن نصر وخاصة يوسف الأول فقد تولى السلطة عقب مقتل أخيه محمد الرابع ومدبر مقتله هم شيوخ الغزاة بالأندلس الذين توالوا بأنفسهم قبول البيعة للسلطان الجديد أبي الحجاج وهو بعد فتى لم يشب عن الطوق وقد حفل عصر هذا السلطان بالحرب.
