كان الكاتب قد عكف على كتابته بين العامين 1984 و 1986، أي في الفاصل الأخير من حياته، لاستعادة الشهور الطويلة (ما يقرب من عامين) التي كان أمضاها في ضيافة الفدائيين الفلسطينيين في عجلون (الأردن) بخاصة، في مطلع العقد السبعيني، والجولات التي قام بها، في الفترة نفسها أو في فترات لا حقة، في أقطار المغرب ولبنان وسوريا. وسواء في إقامته تلك بين الفدائيين، في الخيم أو تحت النجم الساهر ( حيث منحه الفلسطينيون اسما حركيا: الملازم علي، وتصريح مرور يخول له الانتقال بين جميع الحركات ومجموعات المقاومة )، أو في جولاته في المدن العربية.
