كان هذا الكتاب جزءا من مشروع أكبر هو ترجمة أقدم نصوص في نظرية النقد إلى اللغة العربية ونشرها بقصد دعم النقد المنهجي في لغتنا. هذا الجزء الأول يشمل ما ورد في جمهورية أفلاطون وفي المحاورات وفي كتاب القوانين من كلام عن الفن والتقليد وعن الصناعة والإلهام وعن الرقابة على الفنون والآداب. كما يشمل ترجمة لكوميديا الضفادع لأرسطوفانيس لأنها في صميم معركة القدماء والمحدثين. ومع كل هذا معجم كلاسيكي لأعلام اليونان القديمة يعين القارئ على فهم هذه النصوص ويشمل : 1. من مؤلفات أفلاطون : أيون، محاورة الجمهورية : الكتاب الثاني والثالث والعاشر، القوانين : الكتاب الثاني والسابع والثامن، 2. من مؤلفات أريسطوفانيس : مسرحية الضفادع، 3. المعجم الكلاسيكي.
