Overview
مدينة المنامة، عاصمة البحرين وأكبر مدنها، وتقع في الجزء الشمالي المنخفض من جزيرة البحرين، وقد برزت إلى حيز الوجود بذلك الإسم في القرن الخامس عشر الميلادي، غير أنه لا توجد في المنامة مباني قديمة، وإن وجدت فقد تم تجديدها عدة مرات، وذلك لرداءة المونة المستخدمة في النباء، ومن أقدم لتك الأماكن المعروفة مسجد الخواجة وسط المدينة، ومسجد خميس، اللذين ذكرهما الشاعر الخطي سنة 1008 هـ.، وقلعة الديوان التي جدد بناؤها في القرن السابع عشر، وقد جاء ذكر المنامة في وثيقة عثمانية مختومة بخم أمير الإحساء العثماني، مرسلة إلى دار السلطنة.
