الكتاب يلقي الضوء على تاريخ أحد عشر شيخاً من شيوخ آل بوفلاح حكام أبوظبي على مدار قرنين من الزمان تقريبا، وقد اتخذوا من قصر الحصن مقرا للحكم والإدارة، حتى غدا رمزا لمرحلة مهمة من تاريخ الإمارة وإنجازات حكامها، وبيان مساهماتهم في تحديد ملامح تاريخ المنطقة وما جاورها، بداية من الشيخ شخبوط بن ذياب بن عيسى، وانتهاء بالشيخ شخبوط بن سلطان آل نهيان ممن حكموا أبوظبي منذ عام 1793م إلى عام 1966 م. وتناول الكتاب عوامل بزوغ إمارة أبوظبي، لتصبح أهم إمارة على شاطىء الخليج من الناحية السياسية والاقتصادية.
